The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has extended a generous offer to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur, as they embark on the journey to establish their maiden satellite branch in Pune. PCMC has made available a sprawling 60-acre plot of government land situated in Moshi.

A delegation from IIM is scheduled to visit the city on October 12, conducting a thorough assessment of the land’s suitability for the prospective Pimpri-Chinchwad wing. Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam affirmed, “We have informed them about the availability of a parcel of land in Pimpri-Chinchwad, and they are welcome to evaluate its feasibility themselves.”

The PCMC had previously reached out to the Pune collector, urging them to facilitate discussions with IIM representatives. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh elaborated, “We had learned that IIM was in search of suitable land for their branch. Consequently, we dispatched a letter to the Pune district collector, recommending a 60-acre government-owned land parcel in Moshi within the PCMC jurisdiction.” He clarified that the land is presently earmarked for recreational purposes, with the potential for its designation to be altered to accommodate the IIM.

Singh emphasized the transformative impact an institution of IIM’s stature would have on Pimpri-Chinchwad, stating, “If IIM establishes a presence in our city, it will undoubtedly trigger a significant ripple effect.”

Previously, IIM had identified a plot in the Prerne area along the Pune-Ahmednagar Road, but progress on that front had stalled.

In the meantime, MLA Mahesh Landge revealed his efforts to bring an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to Pimpri-Chinchwad. He recounted, “While in Delhi, I learned that IIM Nagpur was seeking a location in Pune for its satellite branch. I reached out to them and invited them to explore the available land in Pimpri-Chinchwad. I also contacted Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and sought his intervention in the matter. Fadnavis has engaged with IIM officials regarding this opportunity.”

Highlighting the strategic value of establishing IIM in Moshi, Singh noted its prime location along the Pune-Nashik Highway, offering superior connectivity compared to other areas of the city. He added, “Furthermore, it is conveniently linked to Pune airport, and Mumbai is also easily accessible. The Outer Ring Road provides excellent connectivity, making Moshi a compelling choice for the IIM branch
